The organization uses the application in one department. In apps are developed BPM processes with external services integration and data orchestration.
  • It is very easy to project models of processes
  • Very good implemented BPM features
  • You can use OpenSpace api and administrator api to build more complicated things.
  • Part of BPM Studio connected with development of mediation has many bugs.
  • BPM Studio doesn't contain debugger.
  • Some problems with deployment of more sophisticated projects (ex. Decision Tables).
It is very good to implement BPM processes without complication integration and data orchestration. It's not for middle-ware projects with only a small part of BPM.

It's used across the entire organization of an important financial institute. It solves in a great manner the business scenario of the management of long-term business processes offering the possibility to resubmit a task in error. It permits us to represent easily the corporate organization by the organization model. The model is designed to easily define the organization unit and dispatch the proper privilege to them.
  • Workspace and Openspace Console that offers a powerful method for troubleshooting and viewing the routing within a process
  • Easy representation of the corporate organization
  • Powerful IDE to design a business process as a TIBCO Business Studio BPM Edition
  • Testing and Debugging
  • Improvement of the simulation
The scenario where TIBCO ActiveMatrix is well suited is in the scenario where there are more long-term business processes and in a complex corporate organization where there are many users with different privileges to perform actions on the same processes. It's less appropriate where there are no complex business process especially if the resubmit of the task in error is not required.

Our actual TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM projects have been focused on department needs. The main goal for these projects is automating manual processes.
  • Fast system prototyping
  • Good service and process integration
  • Custom development documentation
PRO: Good for business-centric systems.
CONS: Needs to improve integration with 3rd-party authentication systems (for example, Federated STS systems and Windows Identity foundation).

We use AMX BPM for an audit system, where the work items represent one single client and it progresses to multiple stages, gets escalated to managers for approval and gets back and forth to the user until it gets completed.
  • Assign work items to set of users. You can assign work to users based on the groups they belong to in the org model or by their position.
  • Manage user access and privileges, each set of users can perform a set of tasks based on their privileges and we can also restrict the actions for each level of users.
  • Escalating work items: A user can escalate a work item to a senior user and the matter can be progressed to another level or get closed straight away. The life cycle of work items is stored in the database where it gets reflected in Spotfire reports.
  • One of the challenges we faced with AMX BPM is the way the data is kept and it is hard to troubleshoot when a work items goes into halted state. Either there should be better documentation of what is under the hood or simplify the way work items data are stored.
  • Assigning privileges to system action where multiple organization models are used, seems to create ambiguity, as per the manual: "If different privileges are assigned to the same system action at different levels in the organization model, each level is checked when determining whether a user has the necessary privilege to be able to perform a particular system action. If the lowest level has no required privileges assigned, the parent entity is checked, and so on up the organization model hierarchy to the default, system-wide value."
  • It is cumbersome to add the same system action in all org models even though it won't be used everywhere.
  • When AMX BPM integrates with other products such as AMX BusinessWork, there should be a better way for the work items to handle broken communication. Data recovery seems to be an issue.
When a work item requires involvement from multiple people and escalation it works well.

In our organization, we use both AMX BPM 3.0 and AMX BPM 4.0 to design and develop for better integration business outcomes. With flexible processes able to react to the right business events in real time, for all an organization’s business process needs.
  • Organizes business processes in a clear and organized view.
  • Powerful tool for complex business processes.
  • You cannot test and locale your business process
  • Clean, Build and Deploy is slow and complex
  • AMX BPM Administration is too complex in the beginning
If you have to orchestrate only a few and short time processes, you shouldn't use ActiveMatrix BPM.

I use TIBCO AMX BPM for the client business workflow implementation. It is used partially by the organization for now.
  • Distributing work to individual or team/groups
  • Maintaining process instance data case to case basis
  • Providing proper user interfaces interactively at runtime
  • Please make the TIBCO AMX Admin more user friendly. Currently we face a lot of issues with opening it in Browser.
  • The BPM Documentation is not good. The older Blue header was much better. It s not compatible with IE at all.
  • You should put proper help on how to configure Security Policies with respect to BPM without using Mediation wrapper.
